AKC DNA Kit (Nonrefundable)

The AKC DNA Kit provides a unique genetic identity for your dog, which can be used for parentage verification. You receive 201 SNP (single nucleotide polymorphism) markers unique to your dog that get added to the AKC DNA Database, which compares existing genotypes to pedigrees. Kit includes all materials necessary to collect and submit a DNA sample from one dog for AKC DNA Certification.

AKC DNA Profiling is provides genetic identity for parentage verification and genetic identity purposes only. If you also would like to receive genetic health and trait information, please purchase the AKC DNA + Health Kit. These kits do NOT determine breed.

All AKC DNA Kits must be activated at dna.akc.org prior to submission to our service provider in Lincoln, NE. If you do not have access to the internet to activate your kit, please contact AKC DNA at 919-816-3508 for further instructions on how submit your sample.

The current non-barcoded AKC DNA kits (both prepaid and regular $50 kits) are being phased out. These “legacy” AKC DNA kits will still be accepted for processing. The original procedure of mailing the sample, payment and completed forms directly to AKC DNA Operations in Raleigh NC will still be required for processing these old-style, non-barcoded kits.

Please note, the DNA sample must be received by AKC’s service provider lab in Lincoln NE before the dog meets any AKC DNA requirements.

Why We Like It

The DNA Profile Program is a voluntary program that dog breeders can use to strengthen their breeding programs. Participants receive an AKC letter of DNA Analysis with the dog's registration information, owner's name, DNA Profile Number, and the dog's actual genotype.
